How does Invisalign® work?
Invisalign® doesn’t use brackets and archwires to straighten your teeth. Instead, this method uses clear plastic aligners which look a little bit like thin sports mouthguards to guide your teeth into place.
The process begins with 3D imaging equipment which we use to create your smile. This means we can see what your smile will look like after treatment, before you’ve even begun! The images we take are then used to create custom-made aligners, designed specifically for the condition of your teeth.
These aligners exert mild pressure on the teeth that need correcting in order to straighten your smile and will be changed approximately every two weeks as your teeth move.
Benefits of Invisalign®
One of the greatest benefits of Invisalign® is that the aligners are removable. This means you can take them out to eat, brush and floss and at other times during the week, such as client meetings or evenings out. However, for best results the aligners must be worn for 22 hours a day. Any less and you could delay your treatment time.
Types of Invisalign®
There are four different versions of Invisalign:
- Invisalign® Comprehensive – the original version of this treatment which takes between 12 and 24 months.
- Invisalign® Lite – this version is only suitable for problems associated with the front six teeth, but results can be seen in as little as six months.
- Invisalign® Express – another quick treatment option to correct problems of the front six teeth, Invisalign® Express can bring about results in three months.
- Invisalign® First – this version of Invisalign® has been designed just for children who are exhibiting the need for orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign® is also a viable treatment option for teens, with blue dot wear indicators able to be fitted to each set of aligners to help teens keep track of how often they’re wearing their aligners.
