At Taree Orthodontics, we're excited to welcome each new patient to our practice. However, we also know that when you first start out on your orthodontic treatment journey, you can be a little nervous. That's perfectly normal. Most of our patients are, which is why we've outlined the treatment process below so you know what to expect.
Your first consultation
At your first consultation, we want to get to know you. We'll take the time to talk to you about your teeth and smile, what you like about it, what you don't like about it and the result you're hoping to achieve from treatment.
Our orthodontic team will assess your teeth and take any photographs or x-rays which are needed to help them prepare the right appliance for you, whether this be invisible braces, traditional metal braces or hidden braces.
Your second visit
Your second visit is usually the visit when we fit your appliance. This will be one of your longest consultations, lasting approximately one hour. We need to ensure your appliance fits your teeth as it should so we start your treatment correctly. Once your braces have been fitted and we've given you instructions on how to care for them, you're good to go. We won't need to see you for another six to eight weeks.
What happens during treatment?
In between consultations with your orthodontist you are responsible for looking after your teeth and your appliance. This means brushing your teeth regularly, using disclosure tablets to ensure all surfaces are clean, and keeping your appliances food-free too. This isn't as hard as it sounds, as long as you follow the instructions given to you by our staff.
After care
When it comes time to have your braces removed, it's not enough just to look and admire your new smile, you must look after it. Part of our treatment at Taree Orthodontics is retention. This is perhaps the most important part of your orthodontic treatment journey.
The retention phase helps to keep your teeth in their newly straightened position. We’ll provide you with a removable retainer for wearing at night only or a fixed retainer which you must wear for the first six months and then a removable retainer at night thereafter.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Taree Orthodontics family and working with you to create a brand new smile.
